DEB team wants group victory: Shown that we can beat Switzerland

After the historic fifth victory in a row, the German team at the World Cup in Finland on Tuesday (11.20 a.m.) against Switzerland wants the group victory.

“We have shown that we can beat Switzerland,” said Ahl professional Leon Gawanke confidently after the 5: 4 against Kazakhstan: “We don’t have to be impressed. Then too much respect is not good.”

The Confederates are concerned with first place. A German team has never started to the World Cup quarter-finals from the top of the table. “We are always 100 percent motivated against them and we really hurt last year,” added the Manitoba Moose defender: “If we punch everything in, we will also leave the ice as the winner.”

At the World Cup in Riga last year, the selection of the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB) won 3-2 after penalty shootout against Switzerland. With his goal, Gawanke had only enabled the extension to 2: 2 44 seconds before the end of the regular season. “It was one of the biggest goals of my career,” said Gawanke, adding: “Hopefully after the World Cup I can look at a new goal.”
